Book Recommendation: The Upcycle: Beyond Sustainability — Designing Abundance
by William McDonough and Michael Braungart
Upcycle is actually a follow-up to one of the most popular sustainability books, Cradle to Cradle, The Upcycle addresses the next steps we need to take to improve the world we live in by how we create, live, and build. The authors talk about thinking of resources in terms of "nutrient cycles". Instead of focusing on how we reduce or reuse a toxic product, they highlight the question how we design products so their components are endlessly recaptured while the manufacturing process cleans water and air. In this book, you were taken on a journey to reimagine a truly "green" world and thereby focus on redesigning our way of living to improve the environment WITH our human existence.

The book especially inspired me because it provides a more positve and encouraging approach to the solution of our ecological crises by giving some clue about how we can act positively to limit the noxious consequences of consumerism and, hopefully, restore equilibrium in our biosphere.
Possibly the most hopeful book about sustainability I have read in a long time!
